The Association of Chinese Students and Scholars in Eindhoven
Introduction The Association of Chinese Students and Scholars in Eindhoven (ACSSE) is the largest organization for Chinese students and scholars in Eindhoven. The Association aims to help all Chinese students and scholars who study and work in Eindhoven to integrate into the life in Eindhoven and to enhance the connections among them as well as communication with Dutch and other international associations in Eindhoven. Motivated by this goal, ACSSE participates and organizes many social and cultural activities in Eindhoven every year such as traditional festival parties and New Student Orientation. We hope that those activities can help Chinese students to get familiar with the local society and can provide Dutch and other International friends access to the Chinese culture. We also hope that those activities can strengthen the friendship among the Chinese, Dutch and other International students and scholars in Eindhoven.
The ACSSE was founded in 2001 in TU/e and its members were mostly the Chinese PhD candidates in TU/e. With the development of these years, its members include Chinese students (Bachelors, Masters and PhD candidates) and researchers (Post Docs, Assistant professors) in TU/e as well as Chinese Students (the preparatory, Bachelors and Masters) in Fontys. Due to the steadily growing popularity of our association, it is also very influential among young Chinese engineers who work for those high-tech companies which are located in Eindhoven and the Chinese students in China who want to pursuit abroad study in Eindhoven. Our official website is www.acsse.nl and aims to share information among our members.
Every year we will organize many activities. For example, “Welcome city trip to the new comers” is a very successful yearly event for new student orientation. Our members will help freshman to get familiar with the local society. Useful tips such as where they can find the POST office, the nearest bank, the open market are given by many experienced old students. Another example is the activity of the dancing group who work together with our association. The group cooperated with Footloose (a Dutch Student Dancing Club) to give performance. Cultural activities, like parties for traditional Chinese festivals such as Mid-Autumn festival and Spring festival, are welcomed by Chinese students and their friends who are interested in the Chinese culture. We also organize “Flower Trip” and visit Keukenhof which is the most famous garden in the world every year. And the trip is also very popular among Chinese students. For sports fans, we also help them to organize football, badminton and table tennis matches. In 2009, we organize a very successfully in-door football match and many Chinese student football teams from other cities in Netherlands participated in the match.
